VOSS presents AI-supported sensor glove “ClickID”

Intelligent wearable for recognizing correct mating processes facilitates assembly, reduces the error rate in series

error rate in series production and increases production quality

Wipperfürth, June 6, 2024 - VOSS, a leading provider of integrated system solutions for the automotive and mechanical engineering industries, presented its latest development ClickID at this year's Hannover Messe. The intelligent sensor glove is used to monitor manual assembly processes for electrical or fluidic plug connections, clips or similar components in high-volume series.

“Automation continues to increase in modern production. Nevertheless, there are still highly complex assembly steps that require precise movements and are carried out by human hands,” says Dr. Anne Völkel, Head of Innovation Projects at VOSS Automotive. “The trend towards modularization and electrification of products means that the number of plug connections in production is increasing. Repetitive activities such as these in particular are potential sources of error that are minimized by ClickID. The flexible wearable was developed to relieve workers and optimize processes.”

ClickID includes audio and motion sensors that ensure that both the sound of the assembly (the “click”) is identified and the movement made matches the corresponding assembly. An integrated AI analyzes each assembly attempt according to a specially developed algorithm and compares it with learned patterns. Visual and haptic feedback on the correct execution of the assembly is passed on to the worker in real time and documented in a database system. This can also be integrated by the customer via a REST API, allowing their own quality assurance systems to be connected directly to the ClickID system. In addition to monitoring manual assembly, stationary applications could also be possible in the future by expanding the hardware. These include, for example, classic condition monitoring as a retrofit solution in production.
