Permanently sealed VOSSFormSQR: Proven pipe forming for 20 years

What do the VW Golf, Ferrero Rocher and Heinz Ketchup have in common? They are all long-running favorites in the respective manufacturer’s product portfolio. It's hard to imagine the range without it and is always mentioned in the same breath as the company name. We also have a long-running favorite, or rather: a long-running poet. Our VOSSFormSQR is celebrating its 20th birthday this year.

When our engineers presented the VOSSFormSQR pipe forming system in 2001, even the greatest optimists among them probably had no idea that even 20 years later there would be no known system-related failure at one of our customers. The fear was that the name, which initially seemed a bit awkward, could cause confusion. Today, no one is surprised about the addition SQR, which stands for safety, quality and profitability. The system has become synonymous with leak-free connections in the area of ​​hydraulic pipes, pipe connections and hydraulic connection technology in general.

Whether in mobile work machines, in shipbuilding or offshore: our baby from back then has long since grown up and is now known throughout the market. Since its market launch, we have sold several million SQR functional nuts. The success principle that our engineers had in mind 20 years ago still applies today. The aim was to create a symbiosis between easy-to-assemble design and a functionally unique structure. The latter is ensured by the combination of a metallic seal and an additional soft seal. VOSSFormSQR therefore ensures a permanently leak-free connection even under extreme conditions.

 

Forming with the highest level of leakage protection
 

Extreme conditions? Well, hydraulic lines or hydraulic connections are under constant stress. Agricultural or construction machines, for example, struggle with heat, cold, high pressures or strong friction. Due to the high concentration of salt in the air, an excavator located close to the sea has to cope with different environmental conditions than an excavator in a quarry. But what applies to all areas of application: pipe breaks and leaks must be avoided with absolute rigor. Not only to protect the machine, but above all to protect the people who work in corresponding environments. In addition, the majority of leaks and leaks in hydraulic connections are caused by incorrect handling. This risk needs to be significantly reduced, and that was exactly one of the approaches in the development of VOSSFormSQR.

The result can still be seen today. VOSSFormSQR still stands for the reliable connection of stainless steel and steel pipes. Our system is of course also certified for marine and offshore applications - an industry for which extreme environmental conditions and reliability are part of everyday life, which also qualifies the system for many applications with the highest demands. Based on a three-component structure, our developers were also able to overcome this challenge: Thanks to VOSS coat, VOSSFormSQR offers the highest level of corrosion protection and can withstand even the strongest loads over the long term, for example with high pressure peaks or strong vibrations. The zinc and nickel-based coating defies even aggressive media and guarantees particularly high corrosion resistance. The three components mentioned are a functional nut with an integrated clamping ring, a soft seal and a cold-formed 24° pipe contour at the end of the hydraulic pipe to be connected.

 

Hydraulic connection made easy
 

A key goal in the development of VOSSFormSQR was, above all, assembly reliability, so that leak-proof and process-reliable connections are guaranteed even with frequently changing assembly personnel. This was also cleverly solved: thanks to the metallic seal and the additional soft seal, VOSSFormSQR offers double protection against leaks. VOSS attaches great importance to the convenient and easy installation of the system: the fitter creates the pipe contour using the VOSSForm 100 forming machine. The SQR functional nut with integrated clamping ring has the task of clamping the pipe radially around the circumference. This principle relieves the load on the transition between the formed contour and the tube, which in turn increases the tolerance to dynamic loads. At the same time, it makes the system extremely robust against dynamic loads, as the pipe provides reliable support over a longer installation space. Thanks to the integrated stop plate in VOSSForm 100, process reliability during pre-assembly is always guaranteed: To form the tube, the fitter pushes the tube to be formed into the machine as far as it will go. Pressing the start button triggers the process - errors are excluded.
